Congratulations to Hobart Airport on this wonderful news! This is a great win for the Tasmanian economy and business communities.
Today the Federal Government confirmed a $60 million funding commitment toward the Hobart Airport Runway Upgrade project. Combined with a further $70 million investment, Hobart Airport will deliver its most significant project in the airport’s history. We thank the Federal Infrastructure Minister Catherine King, Minister Julie Collins, Senator Carol Brown, Senator Catryna Bilyk and Brian Mitchell MP for their continued support. ✈ The $130 million investment will strengthen the runway to allow for the most popular international carriers to land in Tasmania for the first time, opening the door for international travellers to be able to fly directly to and from Hobart to Asia and beyond. ✈ Tasmanian farmers will have non-stop flights to key Asian markets to get their produce to market quicker and for a higher premium, cutting the 10 to 36 hour travel time of having to go via Melbourne’s Tullamarine. ✈ Tasmania’s position as the Gateway to the Antarctic will be unsurpassable, with direct access from polar and research programs based here in Tasmania, and a one-stop for flight for those operating across Asia. ✈ The Runway Upgrade Project will create 197 jobs during construction, and once completed it will support around 1,261 jobs, plus an annual economic boost of $122 million. ✈ National airport pavement specialists Downer will deliver the project with work to commence in July this year. “The world wants what Tasmania has to offer, and we’re committed to doing everything we can to meet the demand for Tasmania as a destination and as a producer.” - Hobart Airport CEO, Norris Carter. #HobartAiport #HobartAirportUpgrade #Tasmania Stay up to date: https://lnkd.in/gKvGa84H Image: Hon Julie Collins MP, Hobart Airport CEO Norris Carter, Brian Mitchell MP, Downer EGM Stuart Billing and Senator Catryna Bilyk reviewing plans on runway.
